Blood – the gift that keeps on giving
REALTORS® Care Blood Drive – January 2009
Give a present to a stranger – give blood
January 2009 is REALTORS® Care month at Canadian Blood Services. For the third year in a row, we all have a chance to give the gift of blood and save lives.
This year, the need is urgent:
• Monthly, 71,000 units of blood are needed nationwide
• Blood stores have dropped by 40 per cent forcing blood rationing
• It’s estimated that about one in two Canadians can give blood – this year, only one in 60 has.
Am I eligible?
To become a donor, you:
-must be a healthy individual between 17 and 61. Once you are a regular donor you can continue donating until your health prevents you.
-haven’t donated blood within the previous 56 days.
-weigh at least 110 lbs and feel well at the time of donation.
How to donate:
-Make an appointment at the Oak Street clinic or one of the other locations – call Canadian Blood Services at 1-800-236-6283.
-At the clinic, sign the special REALTORS® Care page at the front desk at any location and your donation will go towards the blood drive total.
Feel proud!
Make it fun!
Get your colleagues together and give as a group – make it a team event
Start a friendly office or inter-company rivalry – challenge another office to see who can donate the most blood
For more information on clinic locations in the Greater Vancouver area, eligibility requirements or to book an appointment, please call Canadian Blood Services at 1 888 2 DONATE (1-888-236-6283) or visit them online at www.bloodservices.ca.

Realtors and blood. I’m sure there’s a good joke in there somewhere….
I’ll definitely go if they set up a “Bears Care” page for me to sign. Hey bears, how many pints do you think we could come up with (please don’t lower your estimates based on what they say about stones).
I have four gallons of fresh, unpasteurized human blood I need to get rid of pronto. Can I leave them outside your office tonight? I’d show up during the day, but…. y’know.
=)
Hello Rob,
This is a good example of how you ARE making a difference. Unlike the blanket drive the solution is essentially already place and it is simply a lack of education or desire which prevents people from giving blood. A campaign such as this, raising awareness and fostering peer pressure to be a positive force, is very valuable… particularly in getting the “first time” donator to actually go and see how easy it is. I used to donate every 56 days until they put the new cap on international residence (due to crd (aka mad cow disease)). It is amazingly fast, easy, and will give you a feeling of empowerment that will have you going back every 2 months. Thanks for your effort!
